The European Parliament issued a Briefing on High Speed rail in the EU

The European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) issued a briefing on High Speed Rail in the EU, pointing out the main figures in Europe, reviewing the regulation and paying special attention to the TransEuropean Network and the harmonization measures in technical and safety issues as well as financial models and liberalization policies.

The document analyzes advantages and disadvantages of High Speed Rail from the perspective of public authorities, balancing economic impacts, both regional and environmental. Other issues are  taken into account, such as China’s strong competitive poisition,  plans for the future and the opposition from certain interest groups within EU societies.
